Osteoporosis: The porous bone Harm
Disease February 27th, 2010

Osteoporosis is derived from the Greek, osteo = bone and porosis = full of holes. Osteroporosis is porous bone disease that increases risk of fractures in old age.
What causes osteoporosis?
As we get older, our bones become thinner because after 30 years of age the level of new bone cell production is lower than the level of loss / damage bone cells. If that happens, the bones lose minerals, mass and structure that make it weak and easily broken.
In addition to aging, low BMD may be caused if all gastrointestinal disorders (gastrectomy, inflammation of the digestive tract, pancreas gland disorders, etc.), congenital abnormalities (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, marfan syndrome, and homokistinuria), eating disorder (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa) , and others.
A thorough medical evaluation, including medical history and physical examination, may indicate whether there are secondary causes that lead to osteoporosis.
Who is at risk?
Both women and men are equally vulnerable to osteoporosis if they fail to get the maximum bone density at the age of 30 years. Peak BMD (BMD at age 30 years) known to have the greatest influence on the development of osteoporosis. The increase in peak BMD by 10%, for example, may suspend osteoporosis up to 13 years.
Women are more at risk than men. This is because women have lower peak BMD and because the speed of bone loss increased due to hormonal changes after menopause.
Prevention and Treatment
Osteoporosis can be prevented and inhibited by the yield of food consumption of calcium and vitamin D are high, sporting a body weight-bearing (walking, running, push-ups) or other load (lift weights, etc.) and a healthy lifestyle (stop smoking, alcoholic beverages and caffeine). Smoking and caffeine increase the secretion of calcium in the urine so as to accelerate bone loss. Alcohol can interfere with liver / kidney in the process of calcium metabolism.
Similar drugs calcitonin (Miacalcin), alendronate (viagra), or risedronate (Actonel) may inhibit osteoporosis, but should be consumed with a doctor’s prescription. The doctor will give it after considering the level of health and your risk of fractures in the future.
Causes of Secondary Hypertension
Disease February 8th, 2010

1. Kidney Pain
Secondary hypertension associated with kidney called renal hypertension (renal hypertension). Kidney disorders cause the most high blood pressure is a narrowing of the renal artery, which is the main blood vessels to the blood supplier kidney organs. If the blood supply decreases, the kidneys will produce many substances that increase blood pressure.
2. Stress
Stress can trigger the sympathetic nervous system thus increasing the activity of the heart and blood vessel pressure.
3. Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder in which patients repeatedly stop breathing (between 10-30 seconds) during sleep. Apnea is usually suffered by people who are overweight and followed by other symptoms such as unusual sleepiness during the day, snoring, morning headaches, and edema (swelling) in the lower leg. Half of apnea patients suffer from hypertension, which may be triggered by hormonal changes due to reaction to the disease and the stress it caused.
4. Hyper / hypothyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism or thyroid hormone excess are marked with easy heat (feels hot), weight loss, palpitations and tremors. Excess thyroid hormone stimulates the activity of the heart, increasing blood production, and increase the resistance of blood vessels leading to hypertension.
Hypothyroidism or thyroid hormone deficiency characterized by fatigue, weight loss, hair loss and weak muscles. The relationship between thyroid deficiency and hypertension has not been known, but suspected that the slow metabolism due to thyroid deficiency resulted in delayed blood vessels and increases blood pressure.
5. Preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is hypertension due to pregnancy (gestational hypertension) is usually the case in the third trimester of pregnancy. Preeclampsia is caused by increased blood volume during pregnancy and hormonal changes. Approximately 5-10% first pregnancy was marked by preeclampsia.
6. Koarktasi Aorta (Aortic coarctation)
Koarktasi or narrowing of the aorta is a congenital disorder that causes high blood pressure.
7. Adrenal gland disorders
Adrenal gland regulate kidney function and blood pressure. If one or both adrenal glands impaired, it can cause excessive production of hormones that increase blood pressure.
8. Parathyroid gland disorders
Four paratirod glands in the neck produces a hormone called parathormone. Parathormone excess production will increase levels of calcium in the blood, leading to high blood pressure.
In addition to the eight diseases / disorders above, there are several others that could be the cause of secondary hypertension, among others:
* Excessive alcohol consumption
* Use Pill
* Side effects of flu drug specific and appetite-reducing drugs
* Diabetes
* Wilms’ tumor (in children)
