As many as 250,000 citizens of Indonesia (WNI) treatment to Malaysia every year, because of lack of trust in the ability of doctors in the country, said Dean of the Faculty of Medicine University of Islam Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta Prof. Lamsudin Rusdi.

“Figures do not include citizen seeking to Singapore or Australia,” he said at the swearing-in of nine new doctors graduated from the Faculty of Medicine UII Yogyakarta, Monday (1/2/2010) yesterday.

According to him, with a growing number of Indonesians, especially from high-income groups who seek treatment overseas shows confidence in the doctors in the country began eroded.

“The number of people who seek treatment abroad can be a medical reason such as a more comprehensive equipment and medical capabilities. In addition, there is a tendency people in Indonesia not believe the child’s own abilities,” he said.

He said the problem needs further analysis to address impacts arising from the increasing number of people who seek treatment abroad. The impact can be caused economic problems and self-esteem Indonesian doctors.

“There are a number of reasons why the quality of medical services abroad preferred part of our society, including communication problems between doctors with patients, ‘he said.

According to him, patients who seek treatment abroad, although using a different language can consult their doctor to an hour, while in Indonesia, although both use Indonesian, consultancy and services provided by doctors to patients longest lasted only 15 minutes.

“It was a problem to be solved, because of the quality of Indonesia is not a doctor who is internationally recognized scientific capacity and not inferior to foreign doctors,” he said.

For that, according to him, the new doctor should not get stuck in a narrow professional routines. Many doctors believe that medical science is only focused on the problem of disease.

In fact, ideally, in addition to physical intervention, physicians also must play a role in moral and social interventions in the community by implementing a tri role of physicians, ie, as agents of change, development agents and treatment agents.

He said the government in this case the Ministry of Health, Ministry of National Education, and the institution’s time the medical profession work together to formulate the distribution function modification practitioner educators, researchers, and task division.

“It was necessary because the WHO has long been campaigning for ‘the five star doctors’ ability as a community leader, have good communication skills, be able to manage, reliable pangambil decisions, and service providers,” he said.
